Sherry Hamby, PhD. Gender patterns in intimate partner violence (IPV) remain a controversial topic. Some self-report measures produce gender "parity" in rates of IPV. However, some surveys do not produce gender parity, nor do arrests, reports to law enforcement, homicide data, helpseeking data, or witness reports. This methodological inconsistency is still poorly understood. This webinar will describe efforts to create more valid and gender sensitive measures of IPV, beginning with the Revised Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS2), which did not shift gender patterns in comparison to the original CTS, and continuing to the new Partner Victimization Scale, which does not show gender parity. The Partner Victimization Scale is one of at least 3 alternatives that can be used when a self-report tool that has multi-method convergence with other IPV measures is desired.
