Meet the Team: Jenny Lee

Meet Jenny Lee, Finance Director

Where are you from?

I was born in Australia and my father moved us to the United States (I was 5 years old) to be closer to family.  We spent a couple months in California and came to Minnesota. I’ve been in Minnesota since.

Where do you feel most at home?

At home with my little family.

What inspires you, professionally and personally?

The Future.  With everything that is going on in our country, I worry about the world my children will grow up in.   I believe that there should be progress from one generation to another and I have to contribute now so it’s better for the future. I lead by example so that one day my children will do the same.

What are your areas of expertise or what areas are particularly interesting to you?

I’ve spent my whole career in Accounting and Finance. I enjoy the challenges and stability that come with this career.

Share one thing you have learned, big or small, doing your work over the past year?

One thing I’ve learned over the last year is that change is constant and ongoing, yet it’s exciting and it’s an opportunity for you to mold into what works for you.

Who inspires you?

My children.  They keep me grounded and remind me that little things matter.   My children reflect off of me and that drives me to succeed, contribute, help and care.

What do you do to relax, de-stress or recharge your batteries?

I like to get together with family and friends to de-stress.  I also like to balance my checkbook and review my monthly expenses to recharge my batteries.

Why have you chosen to do this kind of work?

I wanted to be a part of something that exists to help people in need and I found that in non-profit work.  The first non profit I worked for served its community by providing affordable health care and I saw that everyone who worked there knew they were part of something bigger and were there to make people’s lives better.  Non profit organizations and their missions helped families, like mine, get the basic necessities for everyday living (winter boots, jackets, books, etc) and I am forever thankful.  It’s time I pay it forward.

What is your favorite food?

Proscuitto and creamy Havarti cheese with crusty baguette

What is your favorite book?

Too many to choose from. I enjoy suspense/thriller books from authors like James Patterson, John Grisham, and  Julie Garwood.
